Ginninderra Women’s grade team will enter Saturday’s Lynn O’Meara Cup One Day Women’s Final with the chance to secure a historic double, as the club looks to claim both women’s titles in the ACT Premier Cricket season for the first time.
Ginninderra look to be on a roll, making two finals this season and coming off the back of an impressive win against Wests in the T20 Final. Club captain Gillian Gerry has placed strong emphasis on the momentum within the club and how well they are performing across the board. To take out two titles in the women’s competition would be the perfect way to mark Ginninderra’s 50th year in ACT Premier Cricket.
Gerry said the tight-knit core of the side, which has played together for nearly a decade, has been crucial in reaching another final.
“I think there’s a core group of us that have played together for about eight years now and we’ve ridden some high highs and some low lows and I think the last time we played here was against Creek.”
However, Weston Creek Molonglo are equally determined to secure a title of their own after missing out on last year’s one‑day final following a semi-final loss. Captain Kate Lussick has highlighted the strong culture they have built within the squad, and she is excited to finally lead the club into a women’s final.
After missing last year’s one-day final with a semi‑final loss, Weston Creek Molonglo have fought their way back into contention. Captain Kate Lussick said the group is buzzing ahead of her first women’s grand final appearance.
“It’s my first time being in a women’s grand final so we’re really excited.”
Lussick personal growth of captaincy has reflected upon the team this year and believes that the teams culture has been a successor to their rise this year.
“We’ve just been having heaps more fun with it and we’ve just all gelled more as a team. I think we’ve been building with the same few players the past few seasons and now we’re all just like slowly improving and we’ve just really reached that good”
The Women’s final will be live streamed via Cricket ACT YouTube. First Ball from 12.30pm at EPC Solar Park.
