The West Australian Government has announced a new Inquiry into Land Rent Schemes.

Put simply, such schemes allow you to own a dwelling, but not the land on which it sits.

Karl Fitzgerald is the Managing Director of Grounded Community Land Trust Advocacy.

He has been invited by the State Government to make a submission to our new inquiry and says it’s an important option to help us navigate out of the current housing crisis.

He told Oliver Peterson on DRIVE, skyrocketing prices in WA mean lots of people who had good savings before covid “have been locked out of the home ownership market and are now clogging up the rental market.”

“This tool helps get those people into more secure accommodation.”

Listen back as Karl explains how Land Rent Schemes work.
