Nicole Kidman is entering an “adventure” phase in her life, she has claimed in a wide-ranging interview with Variety, in which she addresses life after the high-profile divorce from her partner of 19 years, Keith Urban.

“This year and my next few years are for the adventures,” the Oscar-winning Australian said. “I’m at a certain time in my life. I’m going to do the things I’ve always dreamt of doing that are not anything to do with work. Just to do with exploration.”

Asked if she was “doing all right” following the marriage breakdown last year (Kidman filed for divorce in September, and the pair finalised the terms of their separation in January), she replied “I am”.

That echoed the simple response she gave to this masthead’s Michael Idato last week when asked a similar question.

“I’m good,” she told Idato. “I’m holding it steady. That’s a good place to be able to say.”

Speaking to Variety, Kidman reiterated the positivity and family focus that she has always publicly projected.

“I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good,” she said. “What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that.

“Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect,” she added, making it clear there would be no further revelations on the state of play between her and her ex. “I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family’, and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”

Kidman and Urban have two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, and have agreed on a shared custody arrangement that sees the girls spend 306 days a year with their mother and every other weekend – totalling 59 days a year – with their father.

Kidman owns multiple properties, in Sydney, New York, Los Angeles and the southern highlands of NSW. But she confirmed that she intended to maintain a home in Nashville, Tennessee, where she and Urban lived, as her primary residence.

“We have our life here,” she said, referring to herself and her daughters. “I’m part of the city and community for 20 years. It’s my home.”

Asked if she was ready to come out of her shell in 2026, she said of her experience last year: “I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.

“Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go’.”

Travel has always been a central part of life for Kidman, who was born in Hawaii. The acting career she embarked upon in her teens has since taken her to all corners of the globe.

Kidman revealed that she has been to Antarctica and has trips planned to the Galapagos Islands and to the Andes, to hike Machu Picchu.

“I took my sister, nieces and nephews and loads of friends on a cruise,” she said. “We met so many good people that we didn’t know. We saw penguins and sea lions.”

Divorce or no, when you’re Nicole Kidman, it seems, the world really is your oyster.

“I’ve gone to the Algerian border with Werner Herzog to ride camels,” she told Variety. “My kids have gotten to live in Morocco and see so much more of what the world is. The different tastes, smells, languages, ideas.  All three of us have done seven continents.

“I’ve worked so hard since I was 14 on this exploration of the human spirit,” she added. “And I’ve loved being global.”
