Former Today Show entertainment presenter Richard Reid has revealed he “hated” working with Karl Stefanovic, as he vowed to “never” listen to his new podcast.
The American award-winning television and radio personality is best known for appearing on the Today show between 2008 and 2015.
The household breakfast show name would regularly present the latest entertainment gossip with current co-host Stefanovic and former star Lisa Wilkinson.
“I was gonna say fond memories of Today, but that was gonna be just a lie coming outta my mouth, you know?” he told host Skye Sydenham on the A Bit Rogue podcast this week.
“I started to do the gossip with Lisa Wilkinson and Karl … They weren’t even listening to anything I was just saying.
“The last year of that show, I hated it. I hated working with – not with Richard Wilkins – I hated working with Karl and everyone was unhappy. Everyone was miserable. Everyone hated each other.”
Reid then revealed he would see a therapist for help dealing with his role on the show.
“I’d go to my therapist once a week and be like ‘they’re so mean to me … he’s not even listening to me… making fun of me’,” the Gossip Guru continued.
The 57-year-old was asked if he still has a relationship with Stefanovic and longstanding Today entertainment reporter Richard Wilkinson.
“No … well no,” he bluntly replied in response to Stefanovic.
“It was a good run. I had such a good run on Today, and Richard Wilkins is still, I consider a very, very, very close friend.
“He was the best and we had great chemistry.”
Elsewhere during the interview, Reid said he’s heard whispers of The Karl Stefanovic Showcausing a suspected rift in the Nine newsroom.
“I’ve heard that people at Nine aren’t crazy about him doing this new show because ‘why aren’t these guests exclusive on Today or 60 Minutes, why are they on The Karl Stefanovic Show’,” he said.
“I can understand that, but I would never listen to the show, A, because I can’t stand his voice, but that’s just me.”
The 51-year-old Today Show host launched the self-funded podcast venture in January, promising to “unleash his inner beast” through candid, wide-ranging conversations.
Since then, Stefanovic has welcomed a number of big-name guests onto the show, including One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands, neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo and even Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
When asked if he had a vendetta against the Today host, Reid was quick to shut down those claims.
“No, I do not have a vendetta … on his side of the street I’m sure it’s all fine because he had all the power, I did not have the power,” he claimed.
After leaving Today, Reid went on to be showbiz correspondent on Network Ten’s Studio 10, which is now cancelled.
