Mondraker has this week announced its take on the e-bike ‘SUV’ with its revamped for 2026 Prime platform, which in its raw form is a sporty hardtail e-MTB, but in its Prime X equipped state makes a case for being the only bike you’ll ever need for both urban and countryside exploration alike.

Built around the same distinctly ‘Forward Geometry’ inspired Mondraker frame, the pair of bikes diverges around tyre tread, finishing kit and the equipment of accessories like a pannier rack, wired-in lights and a kickstand, though the DNA is broadly shared. Mondraker doesn’t miss a chance to remind us that this DNA is race-winning on the World Cup MTB circuit, even though the Prime X is better suited as a long-range trekking and commuter spec.

Between the cranks is a generation 5 Bosch Performance Line CX mid-motor, which is the premium end, highly capable off-road drive and at the handlebar that’s linked to the dual Purion 200 controller and display. At its peak output the Bosch drive has 100Nm of torque available, so it’s an expert at steep off road climbs where traction is important. As is becoming standard on ‘SUV’ style electric bikes, a 800Wh battery sits within the downtube.

It’s the Prime X build that has us most intrigued, because its these style of bikes that have cut our car use to the bone when on test at Cycling Electric. Equipped for city life, but ready for the scenic route, a bike like this expands your day by hosting front and rear aluminium racking that can carry your bags and after-work picnic supplies. Two bottle cage mounts open up space for bottles or a range extender.

It’s also sensible in that you have high-powered lights feeding off the battery that will come on automatically when the dark draws in. When you do venture off road, full length mudguards give confidence to ride through puddles rather than around them.

This is a 29-inch wheel platform with a load capacity of 180kg, which goes to show how well built the package is. We can see that the motor is slammed down as low as Mondraker can get it and with that the weighty battery too sits as low as possible, improving the handling thanks to a lower centre of gravity. A 120mm suspension fork further boosts your control and enhances the terrain on which you can cover ground at speed.

The Mondraker Prime, made with ‘Stealth Alloy’ aluminium will be available in five frame size options. Four builds will be available and will soon land as follows:

Prime S – Retailing at £3,799

Prime R – Retailing at £4,199

Prime X – Retailing at £3,999

Prime RX – Retailing at £4,499
