This is a glimpse into what life will be like as a foundation player for the PNG Chiefs as the Australian Rugby League Commission ramps up preparations for the NRL’s 19th team.
The first artist impressions of what accommodation will be like at the Airways Resort in Port Moresby have been released and will be shown to prospective players and their managers in coming weeks.
Airways will develop 67 apartments for the NRL to be used for players and officials from the Chiefs under an agreement with the Constantinou Group. No Australian taxpayer money will be used to build the accommodation facility.
The fully furnished and serviced apartments will range between one and three bedrooms.
Players such as Pat Carrigan, Toby Rudolf and Jesse Ramien have all spoken positively of the Chiefs’ introduction into the NRL as general manager Michael Chammas prepares for the franchise to start signing players on November 1.
The Chiefs hope to have a coach appointed in coming weeks – Willie Peters and Brad Arthur are among the frontrunners – after an ambitious pitch to four-time premiership winner Ivan Cleary.
