A mother has taken to Facebook to detail an alleged bullying incident involving her son at a secondary school, claiming that he was violently assaulted by a classmate

The incident allegedly took place around 1pm on 11 March inside the hall of a secondary school in Kuching, Sarawak.

In her viral post, she wrote that her son had gone to the school hall that afternoon after hearing that students had gathered there for badminton.

A classmate approached him wearing what appeared to be boxing gloves and said, “1 by 1” — slang for challenging someone to a fight. Her son, not understanding what it meant, did not respond. She claimed the classmate then grabbed his legs, tripped him, pinned him to the ground, and began hitting him.

“He used all his strength to hit my son’s head, chest, and arms — beating him like a punching bag,” the mother wrote, adding that many other students were present at the scene and witnessed the assault.

The attack reportedly stopped only after other students informed a teacher, who rushed to the hall, dispersing the crowd and allowing the boy to return to his classroom.

The school’s response to the alleged assault has since come under scrutiny

According to the mother, both students were reportedly called in by a discipline teacher to explain what happened.

However, she claimed her son struggled to explain himself because he is not fluent in Bahasa Melayu, and that the teacher allegedly refused his request for a Chinese teacher to act as a translator.

She alleged that both students were subsequently caned, ordered to write a “letter of confession”, and made to pull weeds under the sun as punishment.

The mother said her son did not actually understand the contents of the letter and only signed it out of helplessness. She accused the school of trying to settle the matter quickly to protect its reputation.

The mother also questioned why the school allegedly punished the students before properly investigating the incident or informing their parents.

“I want to emphasise why the teacher could punish students without investigating the incident, and why the school did not immediately notify the parents or check whether the student was injured,” she wrote.

According to the post, the boy initially did not tell his mother what had happened when he returned home that day

She said he only complained of having a headache, which she initially believed was caused by the heat.

The mother said she only learned about the alleged assault the next day, on 12 March, after another child told her that her son had been beaten in school by a student wearing boxing gloves.

She then rushed to the school to seek answers.

According to the mother, she was later confronted by a group of male teachers who insisted that the matter had already been resolved

In her Facebook post, she claimed the teachers spoke loudly while explaining the situation and maintained that the case had been settled.

She also alleged that the teachers used a threatening tone when speaking to her son.

“Is this how you went home and told your mother?!” the teachers allegedly said to him.

The mother added that the teachers suggested she lodge a police report if she was dissatisfied with how the school had handled the situation. Taking their advice, she said she immediately brought her son to the police station to file a report.

She also took him for a medical examination to document any injuries sustained during the alleged assault.

Police have since confirmed that an investigation into the case is underway.

“The police are currently investigating the case under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code,” Padawan district police chief Mohd Irwan said.

Section 323 relates to voluntarily causing hurt, while Section 506 involves criminal intimidation.
