Ten first-round matches are in store on Day 1 at the WTA Miami Open. Two of those are featured in this article, and there will be a rematch from Indian Wells when Laura Siegemund faces 20-year-old Petra Marcinko. We also round out this artice with two qualifying matches, delayed from Monday due to rain.

WTA Miami Day 1 Predictions
Bianca Andreescu vs Katie Volynets (Qualifying)

Head-to-head: Andreescu 2-0 Volynets

Confidence is clearly not an issue for Andreescu at this point. She’s won a ton of matches at the lower levels, and she’s now back in the Top 150. She’s found her rhythm and has the momentum to string a few wins at the Tour level. Despite what was reported as a long trip from Austin, she secured a fine comeback in her opening qualifying match against Lamens. That said, Andreescu has now played six matches in the past seven days, with five of those going the distance. And given her fitness record, Volynets might turn this into a brutal baseline battle, which could go her way.
Prediction: Volynets in 3

Donna Vekic vs Lulu Sun (Qualifying)

Head-to-head: Vekic 1-0 Sun

There were tears in Merida where Vekic was visibly emotional after losing a set to Cristina Bucsa. It turned out that she lost the match to the eventual champion. Vekic will surely be encouraged by her recent performance against Jessica Pegula, where she took a set from the American in Indian Wells. The crazy part about this matchup is that less than two years ago, this was a Wimbledon quarterfinal. Lulu Sun has also endured a difficult start to the year, with a win over a struggling Emma Navarro the only highlight so far. That said, I expect Vekic’s aggression to translate to a healthy number of winners from the back of the court.
Prediction: Vekic in 2

Laura Siegemund vs Petra Marcinko

Head-to-head: Siegemund 1-0 Marcinko

It has not been the prettiest start to the season for Laura Siegemund. The veteran German has won just two of seven matches in 2026, but most importantly, one of those wins was against Petra Marcinko less than two weeks ago in Indian Wells. The same can be said of rising Croatian talent whose first full season on the WTA Tour has yet to yield any reward. Neither player has hit the ground running, but Marcinko showed enough firepower in their first meeting with more aces and plenty of initiative. The quicker courts in Miami might help Marcinko to flip the script.
Prediction: Marcinko in 3

Katerina Siniakova vs Camila Osorio

Head-to-head: Siniakova 1-1 Osorio

Siniakova downplayed any concerns of a long-term injury after her recent retirement in Indian Wells. She retired in her singles match against Svitolina, but ultimately won the doubles title in the same event. Osorio has enjoyed a great start to the year, picking up a hard-court title at the Manila 125K and recording back-to-back match wins in two WTA 1000s in recent weeks. Siniakova brings that grit and variation in her play, but the Colombian outwitted her in Doha when they met a month ago. Expect Osorio’s stubborn rally tolerance to shine again.
Prediction: Osorio in 3
