The proposal calls for transforming the property into a walkable entertainment district centered around a 20,000-seat arena designed to attract an NHL team here.
ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Developers have taken a major step forward in plans to redevelop Alpharetta’s North Point Mall into a large-scale, mixed-use destination anchored by a proposed NHL arena.
Officials with Jamestown and New York Life said a zoning application was submitted to the City of Alpharetta to begin the formal review process for the nearly 100-acre site.
The proposal calls for transforming the property into a walkable entertainment district centered around a 20,000-seat arena designed to attract a National Hockey League team to the metro Atlanta area.

In addition to the arena, plans include a mix of entertainment, retail and residential components, such as a 4,000-seat music venue, a smaller community hockey rink, a movie theater and multiple hotels. The development would also feature hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail, dining and office space, along with more than 1,300 apartment units.
Developers said the project would include more than 16 acres of publicly accessible parks, plazas and trails aimed at creating a year-round destination for residents and visitors.
Project leaders said the redevelopment aligns with the city’s long-term planning goals and is expected to generate jobs, expand the tax base and add new amenities to the area.

The zoning application begins a public review process that will include community meetings and public hearings, allowing residents and business owners to provide input.
If approved, construction would take place in phases, with different portions of the development opening over time.
Jamestown, which is overseeing early planning efforts for New York Life, recently assumed property management of the mall and is working with a team of design and engineering firms to advance the project.
