RICHMOND, Va. – UNCW’s Gray Mitchum picked up an individual medal at the ECU Intercollegiate and Charleston’s Carys Fennessy produced a top-five mark at the Briar’s Creek Invitational to secure CAA Golfer of the Week honors on Wednesday.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Mitchum shot a 3-under 213 at the ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley Country Club to help the Seahawks earn the team title. The graduate student was one of three UNCW golfers to finish in the top five and one of four to finish in the top 10. The Greenville, N.C., native jumped out to a hot start with five birdies in the opening round. Mitchum nearly went bogey-free in the second round with another 3-under 69, finishing the frame with back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes. He staved off Barton’s Ryan Jahr in the final round to secure the individual title.
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Fennessy captured a top-five finish at the Briar’s Creek Invitational, going nearly bogey-free in her 36 holes of action. The Cougars’ freshman shot a 3-under 69 in the opening round, featuring birdies on four of the back nine holes. That momentum carried over into round two as the Dover, N.H., native sank for par on 17-of-18 holes, with her lone difference being a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole. Fennessy finished at 4-under to tie for fourth-place mark and secure All-Tournament honors.
