PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Villanova women’s tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday, March 18, sweeping Saint Joseph’s, 7-0, to improve to 9-5 on the season.

The Wildcats secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The duo of Emi Callahan and Maggie Gehrig set the tone with a commanding 6-0 victory at the top spot, while Olivia Corcoran and Miriam Gondorova followed with a 6-3 win at No. 3 to clinch the point. The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished with the score tied at 5-5.

In singles play, Villanova continued its strong form, capturing all six matches to complete the sweep. Maggie Gehrig cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while Miriam Gondorova was equally dominant with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position.

Olivia Corcoran battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Jenna Stevens also went three sets at No. 4, securing a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 victory. At No. 5, Lauren Monti rebounded after a first-set loss to take the match in a super tiebreak, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7). Alina Kornyeva rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot.

Villanova’s all-around effort secured its fifth straight victory and a perfect result against its Philadelphia rival.

Up Next: Villanova returns to action on Sunday when it hosts St. John’s in Bryn Mawr. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
