The Chargers re-signed Tony Jefferson to a one-year, $2 million deal Monday.

Jefferson is somewhat of a national treasure to Bolts fans as he came out of retirement in 2024 to play for the Chargers. Since then, he has returned on a one-year deal for the past two seasons and it remained unclear whether the fan favorite would return in 2026.

Lo and behold, Jefferson is back.

In the past two seasons with the Chargers, the safety has recorded 84 tackles (54 solo), four interceptions, seven pass breakups and two tackles for loss. At age 34, Jefferson set a career-high last season with four interceptions, which tied for third-most in the AFC.

Perhaps the most notable stat from Jefferson’s performance last season was his passer rating just 36.7 in coverage, which ranking third among all safeties according to Pro Football Focus. He has worked with Chargers defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary before and will now play under him as Jefferson is set to provide depth for the unit.
