Guernsey’s Senior Women team will be competing in this summer’s Women’s Continental Cricket Cup in Romania.

Held between 27 and 30 August at the Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground in Bucharest-Ilfov, the tournament is a flagship T20I competition featuring teams from host nation Romania, Norway, Czech Republic, Malta, and Guernsey.

Senior Women’s National Team Head Coach, Ilze Van Der Westhuizen, said the return to international competition marks an important step forward for the women’s programme.

Following a hiatus from international fixtures in 2025, Guernsey Cricket successfully launched its new Women’s Super League, creating a competitive and sustainable domestic structure.

“The launch of the Women’s Super League last year was a significant milestone for Guernsey Cricket, said Van Der Westhuizen.

“It has created depth, competitiveness, and consistency within the women’s game locally. We now have a strong domestic platform from which to select our national squad, and this tournament presents an exciting opportunity to test ourselves internationally.”

Chief Operating Officer Richard Headington said competing in the Women’s Continental Cricket Cup will see Guernsey face European opposition in a T20I format, that will offer valuable experience and exposure for players as the women’s programme continues to grow.

“International opportunities are vital for the continued development of our senior women’s squad. The progress made through the WSL means we are entering this competition better prepared and with renewed momentum. We are grateful to Cricket Romania for the invitation and look forward to competing in Bucharest.”

Peter Mills, Joint Chair of Aspida, the Guernsey Cricket Senior Women’s National Team primary sponsor, congratulated the team on their selection.

“Aspida is proud to support Guernsey Cricket and, in particular, the continued development of the women’s game. Opportunities such as this tournament in Romania are hugely important in giving players the chance to compete internationally, gain valuable experience, and represent Guernsey on a wider stage. We are delighted to play a small part in supporting that journey.”
