Damiano Caruso broke his three-year long fasting during the fourth stage of 2025 Vuelta a Burgos. The Bahrain – Victorious rider joined today’s breakaway which featured renown riders such as Rui Costa (EF Education-EasyPost) and Javier Romo (Movistar Team), but was able to shake off everyone on the hilly final stretch of the stage to ride towards an unexpected triumph.
After crossing the finish line, Caruso expressed his joy, noting, “It’s a great satisfaction. I’m already 37 years old, and it’s not easy to establish yourself at this high level.”
The Italian didn’t think he would put a cherry on top of his season after his 5th overall at the Giro d’Italia. “It was an unexpected victory, as I didn’t expect to get here, but I arrived full of energy and am happy to have been able to do this job,” he said.
Caruso highlighted the preparation that brought him to this point after “a long period at altitude, almost a month in Pordoi, at an average temperature of around fifteen degrees, and all that work has paid off.” He also praised the Burgos terrain, which offers “superlative, very demanding climbs, and the high temperatures can greatly influence the physical effort.”
