Cole Young continued his spring power surge with a massive 478-foot home run in the Seattle Mariners’ 20-8 rout of the Cleveland Guardians in Friday night’s Cactus League game.

3 standouts from Mariners’ Spring Breakout game

It was the longest Statcast-measured homer across all of 2026 MLB spring training, according to MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer. Only two other homers this spring have been measured at 470-plus feet.

Young’s tape-measure shot came in the sixth inning, when he pulled a sweeper from former Mariners reliever Matt Festa and obliterated it into the Arizona night sky. It registered a 108.9 mph exit velocity and sailed well past the right-center field fence at Goodyear Ballpark. Young also hit a 376-foot homer in the second inning and two-run double in the third.

This spring, Young is slashing .294/.368/.725 with a team-high six homers and four doubles in 51 Cactus League at-bats. His six homers are the third-most across all of MLB spring training, trailing only Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers and Cincinnati Reds second baseman Matt McLain, who each have seven.

Long home runs are nothing new for the 22-year-old Young, who has impressive power for his 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame. As a rookie, Young delivered the longest home run by any Mariners player last season when he blasted a 456-foot shot into the second deck in right field at T-Mobile Park on July 31. He also hit a 442-foot homer earlier this spring.

Young, a 2022 first-round draft pick who made his MLB debut last May, is expected to be Seattle’s opening day second baseman. He slashed .211/.302/.305 with four homers in 77 games as a rookie.
