The Premier League may have treated Chelsea lightly for cheating over a seven year period but Everton left them battered and bruised, and Liam Rosenior in a whole world of trouble, with a resounding victory at a raucous Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Two goals from Beto and a brilliant finish from Iliman Ndiaye delivered Everton’s biggest win over Chelsea since 1987 and capped their new home’s finest occasion so far. Jordan Pickford also secured the 100th clean sheet of his Everton career with a stupendous save from Enzo Fernández, but in truth the threat from the visitors was minimal.
A fourth consecutive defeat for Rosenior’s team, and second 3-0 reverse in succession, maintained their downward trajectory under the former Strasbourg coach. Everton look a stronger bet for European qualification than Chelsea on current form.

Everton have won back-to-back league games at their new stadium for the first time. They hammered an uptight Chelsea side, with Beto scoring twice and making the third for Iliman Ndiaye, and have surely not played better since their move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The result moves Everton to within three points of Liverpool in fifth. Champions League qualification would be a helluva way to end a run of nine years without European football.
90+3 min Iroegbunam gallops down the left and drives a cross shot that is pushed away by the diving Sanchez. It was probably going wide but Sanchez couldn’t take any chances.
90+2 min Chelsea’s next two Premier League games are at home to Manchester City and Manchester United. Maybe that’s what they need to turn their form around.

90 min “If Beto’s talent was as big as his heart, he’d be playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona, but every Evertonian understands that,” says Gary Naylor. “He’s been fantastic tonight and I hope he enjoys the love of the stadium, because he deserves it and not just for this match.”

Iliman Ndiaye has sealed a rousing victory for Everton with a cracking goal. They have been so good tonight. Pickford’s goalkick was won majestically in the air by Beto, who angled his header deliberately into the path of Ndiaye. He veered inside Caicedo, 15 yards from goal, and slapped an unsaveable shot into the top corner. Brilliant finish.

75 min A delightful run from Estevao leads to another corner for Chelsea.
73 min Now Pickford has to charge out of his area to beat Joao Pedro to a shortish backpass. For all their frustration, Chelsea aren’t out of this game.

A big inswinging corner from Estevao is pawed away from under the bar by the backpedalling Pickford. Was Estevao trying to score? No idea. You’re welcome.
Everton break sharply and Ndiaye’s shot from 20 yards is comfortably saved by Sanchez.
Edit: I thought Pickford had saved it but replays show it hit the crossbar.

69 min Joao Pedro plays an angled through pass towards Garnacho in the area. He loses O’Brien with the aid of a ricochet but Garner gets back to cover. He has an outstanding game.
Moments later, Pickford is out very quickly to block Fernandez’s attempted flick. Fine goalkeeping.
Garnacho, who thought he was elbowed during the move that led to the Fernandez shot, is booked for dissent.
68 min Chelsea look low on confidence at both ends, which is natural after their recent struggles. Estevao is preparing to come on.
64 min “Does the Premier League impose a regulation size on goalkeepers’ gloves,” wonders Gary Byrne, “because Pickford’s remind me of my oul’ Gran’s oven mitts.”
Anything that doesn’t fit the Giant Handed Man is fine.
Idrissa Gueye did superbly to read and then intercept a Chelsea pass in his own half, surge 50 yards and slip a little pass down the side to Beto. He swept a shot on the turn, with all the strength he could muster, and it slithered through the legs of Sanchez. A goalkeeping mistake, but Everton won’t care.

61 min Garnacho’s cross is cut out by O’Brien and ricochets to Fernandez on the edge of the area. He shapes a lovely curler towards the far corner and Pickford skips across his line to fingertip it past the post. An excellent save, though not as good as the one in the first half.
59 min It’s a fibrous contest now, with every successful Everton challenged being cheered to the rafters.
57 min: Chelsea substitution Andrey Santos replaces Romeo Lavia in midfield.
55 min Free-kick to Everton on the left wing. Garner hammers it towards the far corner, forcing Sanchez to backpedal desperately and catch the ball above his head just in front of the goalline. His momentum takes him into the post but he’s okay.
Garner may have meant that because Sanchez was a fair way off his line.

49 min McNeil’s deep corner from the right is headed down by Tarkowski and claimed just in front of Beto by Sanchez. Almost a chance.
47 min “It makes such a difference for Everton when Garner is in the midfield rather than being a fish kind of out of water at fullback and today shows that,” writes Brad Wilson. “His class and vision in midfield are critical for Everton and we Evertonians love that Tuchel has noticed as well. “

Chelsea have work to do if they are to avoid a fourth straight defeat. Everton lead through a fine goal from Beto, made by the impressive James Garner. And though they deserve to be ahead, they needed Jordan Pickford to make a spectacular save from Enzo Fernandez.
