Comedian and Celebrity Gogglebox star Babatunde Aleshe has opened up about his fitness journey, revealing plans to work on his “dad bod”. The star, who also featured on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2022 and the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special last year, disclosed that he’s returned to boxing training despite participating in a match that concluded “badly”.

Appearing on Sunday Brunch today, Babatunde received compliments from hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy for his appearance, as they remarked how “good” he was looking. Babatunde responded: “Yeah, I’ve been trying to get fit, trying to [get rid of] the dad bod, so yeah I’ve been in the gym, a little bit of boxing.”

He continued: “Just the training, I don’t spar, I’m not trying to get punched in the face. I’ve had a boxing match and that ended badly. Back in the day, when I was in my 20s,” reports the Mirror. “It was in the gym, we used to just box each other, and once I got hit, when I got smacked in the face really hard, I didn’t move, my body didn’t react, my chin just went back. And I took the gloves off there and then.”

Babatunde previously discussed his physical transformation after leaving the I’m A Celebrity jungle, confessing he had lost “so much” weight. “What’s going on people? Babatunde Aleshe here checking in, I’m back, I’m enjoying myself, I’m very good, I’m at the hotel now and I’m just honestly just having the best time,” he shared on social media following his exit.

“Thank you to everybody who supported me on my journey in the jungle, I truly appreciate it. I’ve learned so much about myself, I’ve lost so much weight, look at my face, lord have mercy!” He continued: “But thank you very much I appreciate it and love every single one of you, honest to god this has been the best experience of my life, and yeah, I’m back, see you all next year on tour, 2023 Babahood, peace!”

He later confessed he would “never” repeat his time on the show again, which saw him join Matt Hancock and Jill Scott in the camp. During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine last year, Babatunde disclosed that his Australian jungle stint actually intensified his fear of insects and creepy crawlies.

“A lot of people do ask me, would you do it again?” Babatunde revealed. “No!” He added: “I’m very satisfied with my time there, you know? And I’m more scared of spiders and cockroaches and everything I was scared of before I went in.” “You’re more scared now?” questioned presenter Ranvir Singh, who was standing in for regular host Lorraine Kelly. “More scared now,” he confirmed.

Babatunde also recalled his first challenge on the Ant and Dec-fronted reality competition, with a horror bushtucker trial that required him to walk a plank from a 32-storey building, but he found the task overwhelming and ultimately withdrew, whilst fellow campmates Jill and Charlene White completed the challenge despite their fears.

“You can’t tell me, like, oh, I’m scared of heights and then you give me a height challenge?” he chuckled during his Lorraine appearance. “And I bailed out. Yeah. It was too much, it was too much,” he concluded, before sharing that he would want Loose Women star Judi Love to take on the same challenges.

Sunday Brunch airs from 10am on Channel 4.
