Binghamton women’s basketball (20-12) defeated Mercyhurst (15-17) in the opening round of the Women’s National Basketball Invitational (WNIT), 81-60 on Thursday evening. Kendall Bennett had an historic game with 23 points on over 90% shooting from the field and grabbing 16 boards for her 16th double double of the season. Bennett’s 91.6% (11-12) field goal percentage is the highest FG% in program history (min 10 attempts), surpassing Hall of Famer Leah Truncale’s 81.9% (9-11).

THIRD TIME HITTING 20-WIN THRESHOLD

With their win against Mercyhurst, the Bearcats reached the 20-win mark for just the third time in program history since joining the Division I level. The two other two times came in 2017-18 (20) and 2019-20 (22).

SECOND POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE

Binghamton earned their first appearance in the WNIT and just their second ever postseason tournament in program history. The Bearcats qualified for the WBI back in 2018 after posting a 20-12 record (10-6 AE). Binghamton won the opening round against Youngstown State, 70-59 but fell in the quarterfinals to eventual champions Yale, 70-64.
