A Perth orthodontist has walked free from court after a charge alleging he choked a young boy at a junior soccer match was dismissed.
Steven James Naoum pleaded not guilty in July last year to one count of impeding another person’s normal breathing or blood circulation by applying pressure to the neck.
Police previously alleged the 47-year-old, a parent of a member from a visiting team, approached the 11-year-old boy playing in a match at Mindarie in May last year.

The matter was set to go to trial before the Perth Magistrates Court.
On Monday, the court heard police prosecutors had discontinued the charge after Mr Naoum apologised over the incident.
“Your Honour, [this] matter has been resolved by a letter of apology, by the accused to the complainant,” the police prosecutor said.

Magistrate Gregory Benn acknowledged the matter was resolved “by way of apology”.
“You’re free to go,” he told Mr Naoum.
Mr Naoum made no comment to reporters outside of court.
