The head of the International Energy Agency says Australia risks damaging its global reputation for predictability and could scare away investors if it moves ahead with proposals to impose new taxes on gas exports.

Fatih Birol, the world’s most senior adviser on energy policy, said with its reserves of LNG and critical minerals, and a strong reputation for being a trustworthy partner, Australia could be a “rising star” of the global energy economy as the world transitions to renewables.
