On Saturday afternoon, five-star point guard Kate Harpring announced her commitment to UNC women’s basketball via X. Harpring is ranked as the No. 1 player in the class of 2026 according to 247Sports.

The 5-foot-10 guard from Atlanta chose the Tar Heels over programs such as UConn, Tennessee and South Carolina. Harpring is the highest ranked recruit North Carolina has brought in under head coach Courtney Banghart. 

In 2024, Harpring was named the Overtime Select MVP. She averaged 19 points, six rebounds and just over three assists during the season. During the high school season, she averaged 32.2 points and 10.6 rebounds for Marist.
