Danielle Spencer has received a flood of support from her ex-husband Russell Crowe as she prepares to re-enter the music scene.

The singer, who was married to the Gladiator star for nearly a decade before parting ways in 2012, sat down with Woman’s Day to speak about her first album release in sixteen years.

The project, titled Regenerate, documents Spencer’s journey to finding her spark again after a period of struggle, and features songs written entirely by the 56-year-old.

Not only has Spencer’s return to music been long-awaited, but it has received major support from Crowe, who reached out to his ex-wife after hearing one of the songs on her new album.

“He sent me a lovely message saying, ‘Congratulations, that sounds epic,’” she told the publication.

Spencer further shed light on the good relations between herself and her ex-husband, 61, by revealing he had invited her to perform at one of his recent concerts.

“It was fantastic,” she said of the gesture. “It was really lovely of him to ask me and I really enjoyed the night.”

The former couple reunited on stage at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre in December as part of Crowe’s Indoor Garden Party performance.

Spencer was a guest performer and sang her song Hummingbird from her new album, marking the first time she had performed her latest tracks to a live crowd.

The pair’s reunion came just a few weeks after she confessed she had felt immense “guilt” after ending her relationship with the Gladiator star fourteen years ago.

“It’s really sad breaking up with somebody that you’ve known for so long, that you’ve had children with,” she said on Stellar’s Something To Talk About podcast.

“Me kind of breaking up the family – and it felt very much like I was driving that – so I had to deal with my almost sense of guilt that I was fracturing the family, but obviously I did it for a number of reasons and I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think it needed to happen.”

Spencer’s Regenerate is scheduled to be released on Friday, March 27.
