Authorities have identified eight suspects in connection with threats made against basketball referees following the Greek league finals between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos on May 30 and June 1.

The investigation, led by the Subdirectorate for Combating Organized Sports Violence, found that the suspects – all prominent fans with high-priced tickets – allegedly made numerous threatening and abusive phone calls to referees using untraceable numbers. They also reportedly sent hostile messages via social media platforms.

The case was handled as part of a proactive inquiry by the Organized Crime Division. Following an investigation, police confirmed the involvement of the eight individuals. Charges filed include threats and violations of laws governing amateur and professional sports. Authorities have submitted the case file to the public prosecutor for further legal action.
