History

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Senior Karli Roux etched her name further into the Harding record books Tuesday afternoon, securing a historic individual victory even as the Lady Bisons fell 6-1 to No. 2-ranked West Florida at the Carson Tennis Complex.

Roux, ranked No. 33 nationally, provided the highlight of the dual at the No. 1 singles position. She dismantled No. 6-ranked Carlota Verdu in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.

The victory marks a milestone for the program, as it is only the second time a Harding women’s tennis player has defeated an opponent ranked in the ITA national top 10. Remarkably, Roux holds both of those records; her first top-10 win came on Feb. 14, 2025, when she defeated No. 6 Jessica Binzari of Midwestern State.

Roux Shines in Top-Flight Clash

Roux set the tone early against Verdu, using a dominant first set to put the Argonaut ace on the defensive. After a 6-1 opening frame, Roux withstood a late push in the second set to close out the 7-5 win and account for Harding’s point on the day.

The win bolsters Roux’s case for a significant jump in the next national rankings and reinforces her status as the premier player in the Great American Conference.

Argonauts Show Their Depth

Despite Roux’s heroics, the second-ranked Argonauts (13-4) demonstrated why they are a national title contender by sweeping the remainder of the lineup.

In doubles play, West Florida took the early 1-0 lead. The No. 18-ranked duo of Sandra Recuenco and Carlota Verdu handed Harding’s No. 7-ranked pair of Brooke Coffman and Roux a 6-2 loss, while the Argonauts added wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to secure the point.

In the singles portion, West Florida utilized three nationally ranked players to control the middle of the order. Ece Boylu battled at the No. 2 spot before falling 6-2, 6-4 to No. 67 Aline Midori Da Silva, and Brooke Coffman fell 6-3, 6-1 to No. 54 Guadalupe Martinez at the No. 3 position. The Argonauts rounded out the victory with straight-set wins at the No. 4, 5, and 6 spots.
