Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei will meet Treasurer Jim Chalmers and likely Prime Minister Anthony Albanese when he visits Australia next week, though they are unlikely to resolve their impasse over key issues such as copyright reform, which are standing in the way of the artificial intelligence giant building data centres here.
Sources familiar with Amodei’s trip said his visit to formally open an office here was meant to show senior policymakers that Anthropic was serious about its expansion into Australia. As well as selling its signature AI chatbot Claude to local companies, Anthropic is exploring opportunities to bring compute power, essentially the brains of AI, to Australia because of our political stability and close ties to the US.
