Congratulations to St Laurence’s College who have won the AIC Aggregate for an eighth straight year and claimed the 1st XVIII Premiership in a three-way tie with Villanova and Padua.

Since its inclusion in the AIC Competition, the AFL program at St Laurence’s College has maintained an extremely high benchmark – winning the AIC Aggregate Trophy every year and winning the First XVIII Premiership seven out of the eight times.

Last year, the school also claimed both the Senior and Youth Boys Divisions at the 2025 StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup.

Coaching

St Laurence’s pride themselves on their coaching structure. Former Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide player Sam Mayes coached the 1st XVIII team, alongside current Lions player Darragh Joyce and Sherwood QAFL Assistant Coach Jaydon Macaulay.

Over the years the school has built a strong relationship with the Brisbane Lions with numerous current and former players plus coaches involved in the program including Josh Dunkley, Hugh McCluggage, Luke Hodge, Daniel Merrett and Travis Hubble.

Talented Alumni

Two St Laurence’s alumni are currently on AFL lists with Tyan Prindable, a 2024 graduate joining Collingwood with Pick No.32 at the Telstra AFL Draft. He is yet to make his debut this year.

Harry Sharp, a 2021 graduate has played 35 AFL games for the Brisbane Lions and Melbourne Demons.

Over the next few years there are several players from Lauries to watch, including Cooper Hodge, Ethan Duke, Ash Prindable (Tyan’s younger brother) and Xavier Salvana.

AFL Program embraced by the College

Mr Josh Ferguson, Director of AFL at St Laurence’s, said the entire school community has really embraced AFL at all levels.

“I credit our success to our major belief that we value the success of the whole program over one team,” he said.

“We place value on building a product for sustained success over a long period of time. Hence, we prioritise the AIC Aggregate and 1st XVIII Premiership equally.”

“We provide quality coaches and resources for all teams to ensure our boys are the best footballers they can be when they graduate.”

“It’s an incredible feeling to win 1st XVIII Premierships, AIC Aggregates and the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cups.

“Ultimately, we aim to educate our students in becoming well-rounded gentlemen and assist our boys in achieving their dreams of participating in Senior Australian Rules Football, whether that’s being drafted into the AFL, playing TPIL Lawyers QAFL or umpiring and coaching.”
