The 2026 MLB season began in earnest on Thursday, after the New York Yankees’ Opening Night 7-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.

There were 11 games on tap Thursday, and it proved to be an eventful day. Things began with perhaps the most surprising inning of the season, as the New York Mets chased Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes after just two outs in what ended up being an 11-7 Mets win.

We also saw historic dominance from Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, the end of Tyler O’Neill’s Opening Day home run streak and perhaps the most impressive collection of MLB debuts ever.

The defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers also did little to diminish the idea that they are a juggernaut, trouncing the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2 after unveiling their 2025 World Series championship banner.

Six teams still have yet to play this season, but they’ll all get started on Friday.

The Guardians finish off Opening Day with a back-and-forth win in a potential ALCS preview. Chase DeLauter homered twice in the first regular-season game of his career, and the Cleveland pitching staff worked around four homers from the Mariners.

Chase DeLauter is going to remember his (regular-season) MLB debut. The Guardians rookie hits his second homer of the night to pad the Guardians’ lead. He is 3-for-5 tonight.

Have a day, Dominic Canzone. His second homer of the day brings the Mariners within a run of the Guardians in what has been one of the most entertaining games of Opening Day.

Every Mariners run tonight has been scored on a solo homer.

The Guardians great has his team back in front, digging out a slider at his ankles for an RBI double in the seventh. Will this be the lead that finally holds?

Tanner Bibee went out for the bottom of the sixth inning, but got a visit from the trainer before throwing a pitch. Connor Brogdon is now entering the game, and we can only hope Bibee is OK.

The Mariners didn’t wait long to respond. Luke Raley leads off the bottom of the fifth by crushing a first-pitch cutter from Tanner Bibee for a game-tying solo homer.

We have a back-and-forth game in Seattle. Rhys Hoskins and Daniel Schneemann led off the fifth inning with back-to-back hits off Logan Gilbert, then Brayan Rocchio drove them in with a double to make it 3-2 Cleveland.

The Dodgers finish off a one-sided Opening Day win. They got RBI from Andy Pages, Kyle Tucker, Will Smith and Mookie Betts, while the bullpen backed up Yoshinobu Yamamoto with three scoreless innings.

The defending champs are 1-0.

Dominic Canzone keeps the solo home runs coming with another one in the bottom of the second. It’s 2-1 Seattle.

Kyle Tucker’s first hit as a Dodger is a double into the gap to score Shohei Ohtani from first base. Then he scores on a single from Mookie Betts. It’s all Dodgers now in the bottom of the seventh.

The Mariners’ big offseason acquisition started his Seattle career on a good note, hitting the first leadoff home run in Opening Day history for the franchise.

On a day filled with standout debuts from rookies, Chase DeLauter wasn’t going to be left out. The Guardians’ right fielder hit a solo home run off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert in the top of the first.

DeLauter debuted in the 2025 postseason, so that was his first regular-season MLB at-bat.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is likely done for the night after a scoreless sixth inning. His line: 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts on 95 pitches. A solid start to the season for the reigning World Series MVP.

Gallen opened his start by retiring 12 of 13 batters. Then five straight Dodgers reached base, including the Pages homer, and now he’s out of the game. L.A. still has runners on first and second with no outs as Juan Morillo enters the game to keep the lead at one run.

Andy Pages had quite possibly the worst offensive postseason in the history of MLB last year. He starts this season on a strong note, clubbing a 3-run homer to give the Dodgers the lead in their opener.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Zac Gallen spent the first three innings at Dodger Stadium — ahem, that’s actually Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium — trading zeroes, but the D-backs shortstop breaks the scoreless tie with a two-run homer.

With Shohei Ohtani on base after a leadoff single, new Dodgers addition Kyle Tucker very nearly put two runners on with no outs. There was just one problem: Nolan Arenado, who made a diving play for his first out as a member of the D-backs.

The Dodgers’ ring ceremony is scheduled for Friday, but the defending champions still had plenty of ways to celebrate on Opening Day. They unveiled their 2025 championship banner, and also had Freddie Freeman and Miguel Rojas ride in with their 2024 and 2025 trophies alongside Will Ferrell.

Ryne Stanek had a rough ninth inning for the Cardinals, walking the Rays’ Yandy Díaz with one out, then issuing two-out passes to Jonathan Aranda and Junior Caminero to load the bases.

But Stanek recovered to strike out Richie Palacios and close out a 9-7 comeback win for St. Louis.
