Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 8 in July 2025.
A Reddit user has claimed that their new Galaxy Watch 8 burned their wrist while sleeping. The burn was so significant that it ripped the skin off the affected area and left a scar. Samsung has reportedly failed to acknowledge the issue.
A user No-Map1215 on r/SamsungGalaxy has claimed that their brand-new Galaxy Watch 8 has burned them pretty badly in their sleep. The user reportedly wore the Galaxy Watch 8 to bed and woke up to the smartwatch burning their wrist. The burn was so significant that the skin on the wrist tore off and attached to the underside of the Galaxy Watch 8.
When the user contacted Samsung regarding the issue, the company dismissed the case, claiming that it wasn’t the Watch 8’s fault. However, when we look at the attached photos, it seems clear that the burn has been caused by the Galaxy Watch 8, as the sight of the burn is precisely where the Watch 8 makes contact with the skin. We can also see some skin attached to the Watch 8’s underside, which further adds to the user’s claims.

While we can’t be sure of the veracity of the claim, the evidence looks quite damning. Many people on Reddit are advising the user to file a lawsuit and hold on to the Galaxy Watch 8 that caused the burn. We have reached out to the user to get more information regarding the incident and will update the piece if and when something new comes to light.
Galaxy Watch 8 packs a lot of tech in a relatively slim case
Modern smartwatches pack a lot of tech, including multiple sensors that are constantly firing, in a super compact body. The Galaxy Watch 8 is no exception. In addition to things like heart monitoring, the Watch 8 also boasts sensors for sleep and skin temperature measurement. So, it is not hard to believe that Watch 8 could’ve malfunctioned and heated up during active sleep and skin temperature tracking.
That said, this looks like an isolated incident, as we haven’t seen any other such report. So, if you were looking at the Galaxy Watch 8, this should dissuade you. As we noted in our review, the Galaxy Watch 8 is a well-rounded package with a bright display and a plethora of health features. It is a pretty good smartwatch to own.
