A section of the Western Highway is closed after an accident involving two B-double trucks north of Horsham.

Large plumes of thick, black smoke were visible in western Victoria this morning after the accident.

Authorities said they responded to multiple reports of a collision between the vehicles at 7:20am at Dimboola.

Both trucks caught fire as a result of the collision, including all four trailers.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said one of the drivers was treated for upper body injuries and was taken to Horsham hospital in a stable condition, while the other was not injured.

Victoria Police said drivers could expect significant delays in the area.

They said officers would investigate the cause of the accident.

Anyone with dash-cam footage or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The Western Highway remains closed in both directions between the Borung Highway and Dimboola-Rainbow Road.

Dimboola resident Ben Jones said he was woken by an explosion that shook his house.

“I darted around to see what I could do, but the truck was engulfed in flames,” Mr Jones said.

“There were a few explosions after that, about three or four smaller ones.”

He said one of the drivers managed to put out the flames on his truck with a fire extinguisher.
