It has been less than 24 hours since the Manly Sea Eagles confirmed the termination of Anthony Seibold.

After losing the opening three matches to begin the 2026 season, Seibold paid the ultimate price on Friday night when it was revealed that the Sea Eagles had decided to go in another direction.

As the Sea Eagles prepare to name their interim coach and confirm their long-term head coaching in the coming months, foxsports.com.au looks at what the future holds for the recently sacked Seibold.

COULD HE JOIN ANOTHER NRL TEAM?

Seibold’s time in the NRL looks to have come to a close – at least in the short-term – but stranger things have happened in the world of rugby league.

Due to it being Round 4, almost every team have cemented their coaching staff for this year’s campaign and won’t make any changes in case it upsets the morale of the club.

However, one team on the lookout for a member to join their coaching staff is the Brisbane Broncos, following the departure of assistant Ben Te’o earlier in the week.

This is extremely unlikely to happen, though due to his long history with the club which saw him depart it in 2020 and saw him terminated with a $1 million payout.

He also isn’t close to Michael Maguire.

ANALYSIS: NRL’s most brutal truth turned Seibold’s house to ash

This stems from rumours emerging nearly half a decade ago in 2020 that Seibold “knifed” Maguire in the back, which saw him promoted to the head coaching role at the South Sydney Rabbitohs two years earlier.

“Michael and Anthony didn’t part very well,” former Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson told The Courier Mail at the time.

“Maguire blamed Seibold (for his demise as Souths head coach) and felt he was stabbed in the back to get his job.

“There is a bit of animosity between the two of them … and that’s where it all came from.”

Instead, he will either have to travel abroad or look to the 15-man code if he wants to earn another coaching job in the immediate future.

RUGBY UNION

No stranger to the 15-man code, Seibold was a member of England’s rugby union coaching staff before his stint at the Manly Sea Eagles and has close links to the code.

There are some who believe Rugby Australia (RA) should hire him as a defensive specialist coach ahead of the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup (RWC) due to the Wallabies recent performances which have seen them leak multiple points.

While there have been no links between RA and Seibold at this stage, Japanese head coach Eddie Jones confirmed that he is already under consideration to join the national team’s coaching staff.

The two have a storeyed past together, with Seibold previously working as a defensive coach under Jones during his time as England head coach between 2021 and 2022.

“Nothing to poach. He’s free now,” Jones told Code Sports on Friday.

This comes as they prepare for the upcoming 2027 RWC which will be held in Australia next year.

Meanwhile, the Super League (rugby league competition in the United Kingdom) is another potential option.

SUPER LEAGUE

Despite never coaching in the Super League in the past, Seibold could become the latest former NRL coach to make the switch to the overseas competition.

This would see him follow in the footsteps of Brad Arthur (Leeds Rhinos) and John Cartwright (Hull FC), who are currently plying their trade overseas.

Huddersfield Giants are on the lookout for a new coach following the sacking of Luke Robinson due to a poor start to their 2026 campaign.

Meanwhile, Hull Kingston Rovers are also set to be looking for a new coach for next season, with reports emerging on Friday that Willie Peters had told the playing group that he will be making the move to the NRL to take up the head coaching role at the PNG Chiefs.
