The Reds got off to a fast start, going up 3-0 through the second inning. Sal Stewart hit a homer in the third, and Elly De La Cruz hit another bomb in the fifth, but it was the final run Cincinnati could score in regulation. Boston kept chipping away thanks to right fielder Wilyer Abreu. He hit an RBI double in the seventh to get within a run, and then he hit the game-tying homer in the top of the ninth that forced extras. It seems reasonable that we will have another close game in the season-series finale on Sunday.

The Reds will go for back-to-back wins and the series victory by starting Rhett Lowder on Sunday. The righty made his debut in late August 2024, a little more than a year after being selected seventh overall in the 2023 draft. He went 2-2 with a 1.17 ERA in six starts. Lowder did not pitch in 2025 due to several injuries, so the Reds are looking forward to a full season from their former first-round draft pick. Lefty Connelly Early will go in this rubber match for the Red Sox. The lefty went 1-2 with a 2.33 ERA in four starts in 2025. He made the Opening Day roster as the third member of the Boston rotation, so this pitching matchup is a great look at both clubs’ futures. The Red Sox will be the -143 favorites to win this series on the road today.
