Mills earned £355,000 – £359,999 according to the latest annual report, making him the 11th biggest paid star at the BBC.
This salary represents what he was paid for his previous Radio 2 role, and for his first few months of presenting the Breakfast Show until April 2025.
His full salary for taking over the Breakfast Show is almost certainly much higher and is likely to become clear when the next BBC Annual Report is published over the summer.
Mills remains the UK’s most listened to breakfast show, increasing his audience to 6.5m listeners in February, his highest figure since taking over Radio 2 Breakfast in January 2025.
In 2024 he won BBC’s Celebrity Race Across The World with his now husband Sam Vaughan.
He said taking part in the show with Vaughan was the “ultimate test of our relationship” and the pair got married shortly after filming.
He was set to present a new visualised podcast to accompany Race Across the World.
Race Across the World: The Detour will chart the ups and downs of the series with the help of a different guest each week, including comedians and celebrity fans of the show.
Mills has also appeared on TV in shows including cameos in BBC Scotland drama River City and Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, as well as a role as a journalist in BBC One drama Casualty.
He has also appeared as a contestant on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Most Haunted and Supermarket Sweep.
