Hollyoaks’ Ste Hay finally discovered Rex Gallagher’s secret, with Ro Hutchinson being central in the storyline. As Ste discovered that his fiancé had been exploring his identity, how will he react?
In the wake of his mother’s death, Rex has been dressing in women’s clothes, with only Ro and Froggy Black being aware of this. After attending a drag event, Rex was welcomed and began to feel accepted for who he was.

Despite his approaching wedding to Ste, Rex was yet to tell his partner about his exploration despite Froggy’s insistence. This move was set to be hastened, however, after Ste spotted Ro hugging Rex following the night-out.
In tonight’s episode of the Channel 4 soap, Ste recalled the event in a conversation with Leela, though it became apparent that he hadn’t realised that Rex – who was in drag – was the figure who had been consoling Ro.
Either way, he vowed to find out who the “old lady” was. He left plenty of voicemails for Rex, and eventually bumped into him in the village. Rex tried to calm the situation, but Ste headed to the Hutchinsons to Diane and Tony about Ro’s night.
As he explained the situation, Ro was pressed on who the “old lady” was, but he was evidently nervous about sharing that it was Rex. He said it was a member of his youth support group, and seemed to be in the clear for the time being.
Rex later thanked Ro for his discretion, and said that he would tell Ste the truth very soon. Ro, however, did question why Rex was agreeing to wed Ste if he felt he wasn’t able to be accepted for who he was.
Ste later arrived at the garage and told Ro that he knew he had been spinning a lie about the situation. Ro attempted to conceal a drawing of Rex in drag, but Ste could tell that the youngster was hiding something.

Ste headed to Rex’s, who had earlier told Froggy that he was considering cancelling the wedding in a bid to escape his situation. He had to face the music, however, as Ste asked if Rex was the person in Ro’s drawing.
Rex eventually confirmed the truth, with Ste left silent as everything began to make sense. The big question remains at large – will Ste accept Rex for who he truly is, or will he call off the wedding?
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
