Chart numbers don’t mean everything, as there are dozens of musical superstars who have only claimed a handful of hits on some of Billboard’s most competitive rosters, if any at all. There can be many reasons why an act that has proved successful in many other regards may trail behind more contemporary names, and there are countless groups that have only landed a handful of successes on some of the company’s newer rosters – those that didn’t exist when many beloved outfits were in their prime.

Metallica is one such act. While the hard rockers remain among the most successful when it comes to lists like the Billboard 200 and various hard rock tallies, the Grammy-winning band is not one of the most prolific groups when it comes to the worldwide rosters. Billboard introduced both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. back in 2020, and since then, only the most popular Metallica cuts have reached them. One of the group’s few wins rises to a new high as people all around the world continue to consume it in huge numbers.

“Enter Sandman” Reaches a New Chart Peak

Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” climbs on the Billboard Global 200 in its fifteenth frame as one of the 200 most-consumed cuts all around the planet. The roster takes into account both streams and sales from essentially every nation on Earth. The smash lifts from No. 183 to No. 173, which is as high as “Enter Sandman” has ever climbed.

“Enter Sandman” Has Only Spent a Few Weeks Charting

“Enter Sandman” hits its newly-established peak after only a few weeks on the list, but months after it debuted. Metallica launched the fan favorite on the Billboard Global 200 back in June of 2025, and since then, it has failed to appear on the tally more often than not.

“Enter Sandman” Trails “Master of Puppets”

Even as it steps up, “Enter Sandman” continues to rank as Metallica’s lowest-peaking hit on the Billboard Global 200, and it may never catch up to the only other tune that the group has placed on the 200-space roster. “Master of Puppets” reached No. 20 in the summer of 2022. That classic from the troupe’s discography has spent only about half as many weeks on the Billboard Global 200 when compared to “Enter Sandman,” yet there is no competition in terms of which is the bigger hit.

“Enter Sandman” Misses the Billboard Global Excl. U.S.

“Enter Sandman” has never made it to the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. “Master of Puppets” has, however, and it holds as Metallica’s only appearance inside the top 40, where it once topped out at No. 33. The fact that “Enter Sandman” has only ever lived on the Billboard Global 200 and not the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. suggests that it is hugely popular among American Metallica fans, but either not so beloved by international listeners – or perhaps the group’s following is simply much more concentrated in the U.S.

“Enter Sandman” Appears on Several U.S. Charts as Well

“Enter Sandman” is Metallica’s only charting hit on Billboard’s rankings at the moment. In addition to the Billboard Global 200, the single finds space once more on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, Hard Rock Streaming Songs, and Rock Digital Song Sales rosters. “Enter Sandman” keeps inside not only the top 10, but the top five on the first two of those tallies, which are specific to hard rock, while holding at No. 14 on the list of the bestselling rock cuts in the U.S.
