KTM have the joy of hosting their superstar talent, Pedro Acosta, for at least the next 15 months before his deal with them expires.
The 21-year-old recently earned his first podium for them with an assured performance at the Czech Grand Prix, on the eve of the summer break.
However, the team’s future in the premier class is far from secure, and they are yet to confirm their commitment to MotoGP beyond 2026.
It means that KTM could find themselves off the grid in time for the new regulations, and Acosta could be looking for a new ride with a new team.
Acosta lacks one ‘shining’ talent and cannot match the intellect of the great Valentino Rossi, according to Mat Oxley.
For the most part, Acosta has been ‘lost’ in 2025, enlisting help from satellite teammate Maverick Vinales, who has been very quick.

Acosta tends to ‘suffer’ at KTM, sitting in the dirty air of his rivals this season. The RC16 doesn’t seem to handle it very well.
It’s something that they should be able to address over the winter and return stronger in time for pre-season testing next season.
Acosta is likely to reject a move to VR46, according to the team boss of the Italian team, who expects him to transfer to another factory outfit.
With one eye on 2027 for most teams and riders, the Italian edition of Motorsport.com now reports that multiple teams are prepared to table ‘pre-deals’ already.
Just a few weeks ago, Acosta made one ‘clear’ demand to KTM, and they came good on his request by bringing upgrades that helped him to some better form before the summer break.
Why Maverick Vinales has told Pedro Acosta he shouldn’t leave KTM
Acosta is just beginning to find his groove with KTM, and the second half of 2025 should be far more positive for him.
There are 10 more races for him to put himself into the best position possible for 2026, entering his second consecutive season with the same team for the first time in MotoGP.
That level of stability should only benefit his push for race victories. If he comes off well enough, he might even be able to convince the factory Ducati team to sign him.
It also depends on the performance of Francesco Bagnaia, but joining one of their satellite teams instead might not be quite as fruitful.
Vinales says Acosta shouldn’t leave KTM for VR46 and believes that being a satellite rider could be more difficult for him to endure. There’s no guarantee of an immediate improvement.
