LEAK has added a third model to its revived Sandwich loudspeaker range. The Sandwich 100 is a two-way standmount that sits below the Sandwich 150 and Sandwich 250, both of which arrived in 2024, and is aimed at listeners whose rooms demand something smaller, whether on a desktop or in a more bijou listening space.

The original LEAK Sandwich debuted in 1961, its mid/bass cone constructed from expanded polystyrene foam sandwiched between two sheets of aluminium foil. The result was a diaphragm that was both light and stiff, enabling what LEAK called true pistonic motion. Sixty-five years on, the same core principle underpins the new model’s driver, though the materials have moved on considerably.

Drivers

The Sandwich 100’s 15cm mid/bass driver uses a cone built around a core of Rohacell aircraft-grade structural foam between aluminium skins, bonded with aerospace-grade adhesives. According to LEAK, this combination delivers ultra-fast transient response and low harmonic and intermodulation distortion. A long-throw motor system with a high-gauss magnet and low-loss suspension is said to ensure linear excursion even at higher volume levels.

The tweeter is a 3cm coated textile dome, larger than is typical for a loudspeaker at this price point. LEAK says the increased diameter allows for a lower crossover point and better power handling than smaller alternatives.

Crossover

Driver integration is handled by a crossover set at 2.2kHz, using polypropylene capacitors, air-core inductors and low-loss resistors. LEAK says the layout was developed through extended listening and engineering trials, with accurate time alignment between drivers as the stated priority.

Cabinet design

The cabinet walls are formed from an outer skin of MDF bonded to an inner layer of high-density particle board, with a specialised adhesive filling that LEAK says adds resonance-damping properties. Internal bracing, acoustic damping material and a rear-firing port complete the enclosure.

Size and finish

At 34x21x25cm, the cabinet is compact by standmount standards. Externally, the Sandwich 100 wears a walnut veneer finish with aluminium driver trims, though its front baffle is finished in soft-touch matt black rather than the walnut veneer used on the 150 and 250.

Specs

Sensitivity is quoted at 86dB, nominal impedance at 6 ohms, and LEAK recommends amplification of between 25 and 100wpc. Bass extension is specified at 44Hz (-6dB).

Pricing and availability

The LEAK Sandwich 100 is available from mid-April, priced at £499 per pair. EU and US pricing has not been provided.
