VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova women’s tennis team returns home for a BIG EAST matchup against UConn on Saturday, April 4, with first serve set for 10:00 a.m.

Villanova enters the weekend at 1-1 in conference play and will look to move above .500 as they take on the Huskies.

The Wildcats are coming off a narrow 4-3 loss on the road to in-state rival Temple. The Owls seized early momentum by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point, despite competitive efforts from the Villanova pairings of Emi Callahan/Maggie Gehrig, Lauren Monti/Jenna Stevens, and Olivia Corcoran/Miriam Gondorova.

Villanova responded in singles with a strong push, earning three victories to keep the match tight. Miriam Gondorova led the way with a decisive 6-4, 6-0 win, while Jenna Stevens followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Lauren Monti also delivered in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Temple ultimately secured the win by taking the remaining singles matches, including a tightly contested three-set battle at No. 5 singles that decided the match.

UConn enters Saturday with a 9-6 overall record and a 3-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Huskies have won their last two matches in dominant fashion, defeating both Marquette and Providence by 7-0 scores. Their résumé also includes wins over Fairfield, LIU, Stony Brook, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Butler, and Bryant.

Villanova has had recent success in the matchup, defeating UConn 4-3 last season. The Wildcats have won each of the last two meetings between the programs.
