DRIVERS at Mount Panorama will today vie for the inaugural Bathurst 6 Hour pole award.

Norwell Motorplex, the renowned driver training operation, has stumped up $1000 for the fastest outright qualifier in this afternoon’s two-part, 40-minute session which has been dubbed Norwell Motorplex Qualifying.

“We are incredibly proud to be sponsoring the Bathurst 6 Hour Pole Award for the first time this year,” said Norwell CEO Carina Napier.

“The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour is a true bucket list event where families and grass roots racers spend all year preparing for their shot at Mount Panorama. The event and what it stands for represents a part of motorsport that we love, and connects with our passion for helping racers turn their dreams into reality.”

Bathurst 6 Hour commercial manager Nestora Strintzos added: “Norwell Motorplex is all about allowing people to enjoy driving and be their best at it – values shared with the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour as an accessible motorsport event that enables a wide range of competitors to experience the privilege of racing on the greatest circuit in Australia.

“As the training centre for many of Australia and New Zealand’s leading racing drivers, Norwell Motorplex is renowned for unlocking high performance in motorsport, and the perfect partner to recognise the achievement of the fastest qualifier for the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.”

Norwell owner Paul Morris himself is in the 6 Hour field, sharing a Class A1 Mercedes-AMG A45 with Mitchell Randall and Christopher Gunther.

The nine-strong Class X BMW contingent are most likely to be battling for the prize, although the fastest Friday time actually belonged to the Class A2 Ford Mustang of Cameron McLeod/Keith Kassulke.

Qualifying will get underway at 1:45pm AEDT, viewable via SBS, Fox Sports 506 and Kayo.
