A woman has been charged with murder after a 24‑year‑old was found unresponsive in a very small regional mining town in Western Australia.

Police were called about 11.40pm on Wednesday to a home in Laverton, about 950km to the east of Perth, after reports a woman had been located unresponsive inside a residence.

Officers and paramedics performed emergency first aid before the woman was taken to Laverton Hospital, where she was declared dead shortly after arrival.

Police say the two women were known to each other.

A 48‑year‑old Laverton woman has since been charged with one count of murder.

She is expected to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
