A Today show reporter has revealed that “justice is being served” after she was taken to hospital for a crab bite she suffered at the Sydney Fish Market on Good Friday.
Weather presenter Taylor Haynes was speaking with a seafood worker named Mike who held a huge crab in his hand before she jokingly gave the crustacean a kiss.
The crab then latched onto Haynes’ finger and bit her which required hospitalisation for treatment.
On Monday, she revealed on-air to co-hosts Lizzie Pearl and Michael Atkinson that she had enacted her revenge, claiming to have the same crab that bit her finger, now on her plate.
“Justice is being served this morning, Australia,” Haynes said from the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
“I’d like to introduce to you my breakfast, if not my revenge, do you recognise this bad boy in front of me? Because I definitely do.
“We are being reunited under very different circumstances this morning … it had a great crack at me the other day, so I thought I’d have the last fight.”
Haynes went on to thank Today show viewers for the supportive messages she received over the long weekend regarding her nasty bite.
Co-host Atkinson told Haynes she is an absolute trooper.
“Hell hath no fury like a woman bitten by a crab,” he joked.
Viewers were left divided over whether the act of “revenge” was appropriate, and if the crab was actually the same as the one which bit her finger days earlier.
“You antagonise an animal you get bitten, not sure what all the fuss is about. Should be a lesson learnt,” one said.
“I hope that’s not the actual crab! What did she think was going to happen. It’s one thing to eat seafood, I love my seafood but to see it alive, hold it, then it be dead on her plate after being cooked is another!!!” another added.
“Hahaha that’s not even the same crab. What a lie,” a third said.
While a fourth backed Haynes’ move: “Wow, wonderful to see you clawed your way back to victory over the crab in the end. It’s obvious you got the last laugh”.
