The ACC has long been one of the most storied conferences in college basketball, home to iconic programs, legendary coaches, and championship banners that stretch back decades. While the action on the floor gets all the attention, what these teams wear while playing it matters more than you might think.

With 18 programs now calling the ACC home, the conference presents a wide spectrum of uniform identity, from timeless classics that have defined the sport to forgettable modern redesigns that belong back on the drawing board. We took a hard look at every team’s current basketball uniform set and ranked them from worst to best.

Cal has never quite figured out its basketball identity, and the uniforms reflect that. The Golden Bears cycle through Nike templates that feel generic and uninspired, blue and gold is a fine color combination, but there’s nothing here that distinguishes Cal from a dozen other programs wearing similar kits.

Maroon and gold should be a slam dunk for a strong uniform. It isn’t here. Boston College’s basketball jerseys lean too heavily on safe, plain templates without much personality. The eagle logo is underutilized, and the overall presentation feels like an afterthought for a program still searching for a basketball identity on the national stage.

SMU is a relative newcomer to the ACC and brought its Mustangs identity with them from the American Athletic Conference. The red, blue, and white palette is clean enough, but the jerseys feel like they belong to a mid-major, not a power conference program trying to make a statement in one of college basketball’s premier leagues.

Pitt’s royal blue and gold should make for a striking look, but the Panthers have struggled to find consistency in their uniform identity. Recent Nike templates have been passable but unremarkable.

Old gold and black is an underrated combination in college basketball, and Wake Forest has something interesting to work with. The Deacons’ jerseys are clean and inoffensive, but they don’t make a statement. For a school with a rich ACC basketball tradition, the uniforms feel too modest.

Notre Dame basketball benefits from one of the most recognizable brands in American sports, and the navy and gold translate well to the hardwood. What keeps Notre Dame from ranking higher is a tendency to lean on football’s coattails aesthetically; the basketball program deserves a more distinct identity of its own.

Stanford’s red and white is a clean, classic look that photographs well and reads clearly on the floor. The Cardinal word mark is elegant, and the away whites are among the crispest in the conference. Stanford loses points for occasionally overcomplicating things with alternate designs that stray from what works.

Maroon and orange is one of college basketball’s more underappreciated color combinations, and Virginia Tech has gotten better at deploying it in recent years. The Hokies’ jerseys have improved with cleaner fonts and more intentional design, and the VT brand translates well on the court.

Old gold and white, Georgia Tech’s look is one of the sharpest in the conference when the Yellow Jackets commit to it. When Tech keeps it clean with the block GT logo and traditional gold, the result is a polished, distinctive uniform that stands out on a crowded ACC schedule.

The U’s green, orange, and white color scheme is one of the most electric in all of college sports, and it pops on the basketball court the same way it does on the football field. Miami’s basketball jerseys have benefited from Nike’s cleaner modern templates, and when the Hurricanes wear the orange primaries at the Watsco Center, they look like a team that belongs on the biggest stages.

Cardinal red is one of college basketball’s signature colors, and Louisville wears it as well as anyone. The Cardinals have a strong uniform tradition at the KFC Yum! Center, and the interlocking “L” or Louisville script paired with that rich red creates a look that’s as recognizable as any in the sport

Clemson basketball often gets overshadowed by its football counterpart, but the Tigers’ orange and purple is a legitimately excellent color combination that few programs can match. When Clemson leans into the bold orange, especially in home whites with orange block lettering, the result is a striking, energetic uniform that commands attention.

The garnet and gold is, simply put, one of the best color combinations in college athletics — and FSU basketball’s uniforms do it justice. The Seminoles’ home jerseys, with the bold “SEMINOLES” lettering and the tomahawk-influenced design elements, carry a brand identity that is unmistakably Florida State. FSU’s uniforms feel like they belong to a program with a proud tradition, and they do.

Virginia’s navy and orange combination is understated and refined, much like the program itself. The Cavaliers’ jerseys are among the cleanest and most elegant in the country, with a classic font, restrained design, and a color scheme that ages gracefully.

4. NC State WolfpackCHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA - FEBRUARY 24: Paul McNeil, Jr. #2 of the NC State Wolfpack shoots over Jacari White #6 of the Virginia Cavaliers in the first half during a game at John Paul Jones Arena on February 24, 2026 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Red and white, executed at the highest level. NC State’s basketball jerseys are a masterclass in doing more with less. The Wolfpack script is iconic, the color blocking is sharp, and the brick red that distinguishes NC State from a generic scarlet pops beautifully under arena lighting. Few programs in the country have a more visually coherent basketball identity than the Wolfpack.

You cannot talk about iconic college basketball uniforms without putting Syracuse near the top. The Orange’s look is one of the most singular in the sport, that deep, vibrant orange paired with navy is instantly recognizable from a hundred feet away.

Carolina Blue is its own noun. Few colors in American sports carry the same weight as UNC’s signature shade, and the Tar Heels’ basketball uniforms have set the standard for the sport for generations. North Carolina’s jerseys are the blueprint that dozens of programs try to imitate, and none can match.

It was never really a question. Duke’s basketball jerseys are the single most iconic uniform in college basketball history, and it isn’t particularly close. The royal blue and white, the block “DUKE” lettering, the simplicity that somehow communicates absolute authority. From Christian Laettner to Grant Hill to Zion Williamson to Cooper Flagg, every generation of Blue Devils has worn essentially the same timeless look, and every generation has looked like the standard-bearer of the sport while doing it.
