The first trailer has dropped for Olivia Wilde’s latest directorial effort, The Invite.
Wilde directed the feature from a screenplay by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. She also stars in the film alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penélope Cruz.
The film is a remake of the Spanish movie The People Upstairs. The story follows two couples. The official synopsis reads: Joe and Angela (Wilde and Seth Rogen) are on thin ice, and tonight might be when it all falls apart. Unfortunately, their upstairs neighbors (Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz) are about to arrive for dinner, and everything that can go wrong goes worse.
David Permut, Megan Ellison, and Ben Browning produced the film, which was acquired by A24 out of Sundance. The sale was handled by UTA Independent Film Group and FilmNation. The indie studio will release the film Stateside on June 26. Black Bear will release the film in UK and Irish cinemas on July 3.
The Invite reteams Wilde with producer Ellison and Annapurna, following their collaboration on Booksmart.
The Invite scored 91% fresh from 32 reviews coming out of its Sundance premiere. In a review out of Sundance, Deadline’s Glenn Garner said the film “explores the dynamics of sex and relationships with raw and endearing honesty.”
