Usually at a pro sports event there’s a chance to win a car, the 50/50 raffle or some kind of in-game contest that sends you home with something special. But for one fan at an NHL game, they went home with something they’ve been waiting for quite a while — a baby.
During a matchup over the past weekend between the visiting Vegas Golden Knights and the home team Edmonton Oilers, a fan, according to several reports, including Yahoo Sports, gave birth to a baby while the two teams battled out for a stronger finish in the Western Conference Pacific Division.
Vegas won the game 5-1 over Edmonton, but it’s safe to say that despite the team’s loss on their home ice at Rogers Place, the Oilers came away with one more fan.
The mother and baby have not been publicly identified, but the birth itself did make the game’s broadcast when Oilers broadcaster Jack Michaels reported “breaking news” and “that there’s a baby being born on the seventh floor of Rogers Place as we speak.”
People also reports it’s unclear if the woman had any assistance in giving birth to the child. There has also been no statement or response from the Oilers or operators of Rogers Place.
