The Prime Minister’s announcement that Australia will recognise a Palestinian state has been welcomed by Professor Greg Barton.
He acknowledges the recognition will be symbolic, but believes it is a small step towards opening political negotiations at a time when it appears nothing will sway the policies of the Israeli government.
He is not ruling out the possibility Australia will be punished by the US in some way for this decision.Â
