Australia’s first-ever MLB number one draft pick is one step closer to realising his big league dreams, officially promoted to Triple A baseball.

Travis Bazzana will join the Columbus Clippers following his stint with the Akron RubberDucks, and will now hope to parlay his success into cracking the big leagues.

Just over a year since the Cleveland Guardians selected him first overall in the 2024 MLB Draft, his promotion is a positive sign after a number of injury setbacks throughout his time in the minor leagues.

One of four prospects to be promoted, Bazzana joins Tommy Mace, Ross Carver, and Cooper Ingle in Columbus.

After missing two months with an oblique strain, the Australian returned to action in blistering form, hitting .265/.367/.412 with seven doubles, one homer, and six RBIs, leading to his call-up.

“We’re looking for him to continue his development,” Cleveland Guardians general manager Mike Chernoff said in July.

“Obviously, he had to deal with the injury setback, which is rough for a guy who’s the 1-1 pick and under the spotlight. But these things happen. So the No. 1 goal right now is just get him to a point of durability where he’s fully built up and then continue the development.

“He’s working his tail off even while he was on rehab. Not surprising, knowing the guy. But at this point, we’re just hoping that he can finish out the season healthy and get as much out of it as possible.”

Bazzana will now hope that his form can continue, as he looks to join a Guardians outfit in the midst of an up-and-down season.Â
