Crowne Plaza Geelong has opened as a new waterfront hotel in Victoria, marking the brand’s entry into regional markets. The development reflects growing investment in coastal destinations, with Geelong emerging as a key hub for tourism, events, and business activity in Australia’s evolving hospitality landscape.
Crowne Plaza Geelong has officially opened with 200 rooms and suites, positioned on the city’s waterfront. The property is located near the upcoming Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, indicating its strategic alignment with the region’s expanding events and meetings segment.
Developed as a $120 mn project, the hotel offers accommodation with city and bay views, designed with contemporary interiors, coastal tones, and locally inspired elements. A commissioned artwork by Kate Robertson integrates native flora into the guest experience, reflecting the surrounding landscape across rooms and corridors.
Food and beverage form a central pillar of the offering. The ground-floor café, Verde on Smythe, serves Piazza Dora coffee, catering to both guests and local residents. The first-floor Sociali Trattoria & Bar features Italian cuisine, including handmade pasta, pizza, and antipasti, positioned as a neighbourhood dining venue. The Skyline Bar on level ten offers panoramic bay views, focusing on cocktails, regional wines, craft beers, and small-batch gins.
The hotel also includes leisure and wellness facilities such as a gym and an indoor heated pool. For the MICE segment, it features eight event spaces with natural light and waterfront views, designed for conferences, weddings, and corporate gatherings.
The opening coincides with Geelong’s broader waterfront transformation, supported by new dining, retail, and mixed-use developments. The property’s launch ahead of the summer season underscores demand growth across leisure and business travel, while strengthening the destination’s positioning within regional Victoria.
