Newcastle Knights fans finally have something to cheer about with Tyson Frizell opting to remain in the Hunter for another 12 months.
While it’s been a bleak year for the organisation on the field in 2025, thanks to injuries to multiple key players including Kalyn Ponga, Dylan Lucas, Fletcher Sharpe and Adam Elliott, the club stalwart’s form hasn’t wavered.
His re-signing, for a further season, will provide the squad with a much-needed boost ahead of its clash with the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville on Sunday 17 August.
Frizell’s decision to stay comes just a week after centre Dane Gagai also recommitted his future at Newcastle.
The Knights will welcome the return of Pasami Saulo to the fold in 2026, too.
“We are delighted Tyson is sticking around for another year,” head of recruitment Peter O’Sullivan said.
“His experience, energy and work ethic will be vital for the emerging edge players and several new middles we have joining the club.”
Frizell, 33, has given his all since making his NRL debut in 2011.
And, the tireless forward competes at every contest.
He is renowned for emptying his tank in all of his 276 NRL games, 23 Internationals for Wales, Australia and Tonga, and 16 NSW Blues Origin caps, in a remarkable rugby league career.
Fittingly, last Friday, the proud husband and father-of-three led his teammates onto McDonald James Stadium in his 100th appearance for Newcastle.
“Tyson’s in terrific condition,” O’Sullivan said.
“Despite playing and training with such velocity for more than 15 years, his longevity is a testament to his true professionalism.
“With the ability to play middle and edge forward, he gives the squad a strong balance and his extension is a perfect way to celebrate his 100 games at the Knights.
“Barring injury, he should pass 300 NRL appearances in 2026.”
