One of Mixed Martial Arts’ most decorated coaches didn’t hold back on Jiri Prochazka after his shocking defeat at UFC 327.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka suffered one of the strangest losses in recent Mixed Martial Arts history at UFC 327 last weekend in Miami.
Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg clashed in a vacant light heavyweight title fight following Alex Pereira’s departure from the division. Prochazka got off to a strong start against Ulberg, landing several devastating leg kicks and leaving his opponent badly compromised.
Despite a noticeably wobbly Ulberg being on the cusp of getting finished, Prochazka failed to pour on the pressure, as Ulberg rallied to a knockout win. In his UFC 327 post-fight comments, Prochazka hinted he took ‘mercy’ on Ulberg after noticing his injured leg.
Prochazka’s comments haven’t sat well with fans, pundits, and fighters since UFC 327. One of the sport’s most accomplished coaches didn’t hold back on Prochazka, either.
Coach Ray Longo to Jiri Prochazka: ‘You’re crazy for what you did!’
In a recent appearance on The Anik & Florian Podcast, legendary MMA coach Ray Longo went off on Prochazka following his ‘mercy’ comments.
“We have to discuss mental illness in MMA, because something’s [wrong],” Longo said of Prochazka.
“It’s all funny when the guy is praying on Mount Olympus, drinking his own p***, but this is what happens. That poor guy was confused! ‘Mercy! Mercy!’, what the f***? You blew the f****** fight! You blew it! Holy s***, you gotta be kidding me…his first training is to go and watch the Karate Kid [LAUGHS]…
“Are you crying because you lost the fight? Or you know you’re crazy because of what you did?”
Ulberg shut down a potential immediate rematch with Prochazka after UFC 327. Prochazka entered UFC 327 with lots of momentum following recent wins over Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr.
But Prochazka’s pursuit of a second UFC light heavyweight title reign hit a major roadblock at UFC 327. According to Longo, Prochazka will need to do some serious soul-searching before returning to the Octagon.
