Canon CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8 Lens Announced

Canon has just introduced a zoom lens with one of the broadest reaches on the market: the CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8. This lens covers S35 image sensors natively. It’ll be available in Canon RF and PL mounts, and it features an integrated 1.5x extender that extends its reach to 1800mm and makes it full-frame compatible. So, let’s take a closer look at it!

The Canon CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 was released back in October 2014 and was already a one-of-its-kind lens. Indeed, this ultra-telephoto zoom lens had a massive zoom range while remaining quite compact and lightweight (6.6kg/14.5lbs) for such a lens. We even reviewed that lens if you want to learn more about it.

The time has come for a successor built on the legacy of the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9: the new Canon CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8.

The CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8 is clearly not your “everyday” kind of lens, but for wildlife, sport, or event shoots, the 40-1200mm zoom range will clearly be an advantage. Furthermore, you can even reach up to 1800mm with the built-in 1.5x extender. Natively, this lens covers Super 35mm image sensors. However, if you turn on the built-in extender, it can cover full-frame image sensors.

Although this is an ultra-telephoto lens, it is relatively compact and lightweight, measuring 16 in/40.6cm and weighing 15lbs/6.8kg. Two versions of this lens will be available: Canon RF and PL Mount.

The Canon RF version is compatible with Cinema EOS cameras, enabling Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, Focus Guide, and Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation with the EOS C400. The PL Mount version supports Zeiss eXtended Data and Cooke /i Technology.

On the right side of the lens, you’ll find a new drive unit. This drive unit can be powered via USB-C. It features a zoom rocker, multiple remote ports, and I/O ports for zoom and focus wheels.

Price and availability

The Canon CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8 lens is expected to ship in September 2026 with an estimated retail price of $79,999. If you are attending NAB 2026, Canon will exhibit the lens on its booth.
