Craig Bellamy was frustrated with his side’s inconsistency after the Storm slumped to their fifth straight defeat in a 26-22 loss to the Raiders in Round 7.

The Storm led 16-12 at half-time, but were again run down to lose five straight games for the first time since 2012, when ironically they went on to win the title that year.

“I’m sort of sick to summing them up actually,” Bellamy said.

“We’ve done a lot of good things out there tonight, but we’ve done some things that really cost us as well, so it’s just inconsistent would be the best word to describe it, I would imagine.”

Bellamy was fuming his side should have gone up by 10 after half-time, but let the Raiders score at the other end to get themselves back in the game after a Simi Sasagi intercept.

“Just after half-time, we had a chance to score a try and that would have put us a reasonable distance ahead, and they end up going up the other end and scoring a try,” Bellamy said.

“Things like that just seem to be really hurting us at the moment. I know no-one’s gone out for that to happen, but we just can’t seem to get that consistency in our attack or in our defence either.

“The big part of last week that we wanted to really improve on was our defence close to our line and the first two sets, they got close to our line, they scored tries.

“But then the rest of the game, or the next 30 minutes, we defended well, so just that inconsistency is really the frustrating thing for me at the moment.”

Bellamy conceded his side needs to be better at starting second half’s if they want to break their losing streak.

“I think there’s a few there that haven’t had that sort of experience, but that’s a good question, that’s what we’re asking ourselves as well,” Bellamy said.

“So I might ask you that question, you might have an opinion on that. I don’t know, we’re sort of lost at the moment.

“I know the one thing that has been consistent through the five games has been a poor start in the second half as well and I think for the five games, I think we’ve led at half-time for four of them and just can’t get the result at the end.

“We’re all scratching our head at the moment, so we’ll come together the next day when we meet up and hopefully someone’s got some ideas and we will go from there.”

Storm skipper Harry Grant felt his team improved from the last couple of weeks, but are still a long way off where they need to be to play finals.

“Well we’re all here to win. We want to win and that’s what we turn up every week to do. That’s the main goal,” Grant said.

“But there’s a fair bit of work that goes into that. I think the last couple of weeks we’ve made steps in the right direction towards our preparation and given ourselves the best opportunity to do that on game night.

“Look tonight a few moments there that we could have been sitting here in a different dressing shed, so I think definitely need to take a bit of reflection individually and as a team and continue to work hard.

“Where we ultimately want to be is a long way away. That’s the finals but also our finished game, the product that we’re going after, so we just need to keep working hard at it.”

Bellamy was pressed on what he did in 2012 to turn his side around for a title win.

“I remember that was the situation, but I can’t actually remember why,” Bellamy said.

“I can’t actually remember what we did. Whether we changed things around a bit or we left them the same or whatever.

“But we ended up having a successful end of season, but that seems a long way off at the moment.”
